These joists are to be used as the framework and structure for your decking areas providing stability and strength. Whilst the 6\"x2\" timber is mainly used for the outer framework and joists running along the middle, the 4\"x2\" provides extra strength and durability by acting as noggins and being installed perpendicular to the joists running along the middle.
